R.I.P. Suzanne Fiol

Suzanne Fiol, who was regarded by the New York Times as an Avant-Garde Impresario, died of cancer on Monday October 5, 2009. Founder of the ISSUE Project Room – an art space located in downtown Brooklyn for established and emerging artists in the experimental and avant-garde scene, Ms. Fiol created a truly lasting impression on those who had met her for her commitment to the arts and building a beautiful and inspiring space.
I was fortunate enough to have met her once. Here is a brief flashback I would like to share –
It was June 25, 2009 – the day Michael Jackson passed away – and I was going to the ISSUE Project Room for a performance by invitation from R. Luke DuBois who was performing that evening. As soon as I stepped into the performance space, I saw this beautiful woman dancing towards me (MJ’s music is playing). She embraced me, looked at me, and said, “Isn’t it a shame someone great has left us…”, and then danced away.
She will be missed.
